The Height of the Soviet Union
The height of the USSR is mainly based on opinion. However, in the 1950s, the USSR was very strong, as once they had defeated the Third Reich, they managed to recieve large amounts of satellites and half of Austria and Germany. It had People's Republic of China as an ally. The USSR had many communist puppet states in Europe. In response to NATO in the West, the Soviet Union created the Warsaw Pact. East Germany, Romania, Czechoslovakia and other communist puppets would be forced to join this pact. The Warsaw Pact is shown in orange in the picture above.
